Hey-

The shape of the glass is quite significant in that it directs the wine to a particular place in your mouth... the traditional burg tends to pour wine to the front of the mouth which changes perceptions of acids and tannins I think. The Bordeaux glass (thats the one with the lip similar to the oregon pinot noir glass (I've always thought that the similarity was interesting) which is to pour the wine more towards the center of your palate. Interesting. I sat in on a riedel tasting in turkey once which had been set up to determine the best glass with the indegenous turkish grape varietals... very interesting.
But which way the wines show best is certainly up for argument.

I love Feynman... we may have talked about this in the past, I can't remember. If you haven't listened to "Six Easy Pieces" (really only five on audio since "atoms in motion" is a little fuzzy) and "Six Not-so-easy pieces" then you're really missing out.

I hope you've read all the stuff he wrote without any equations in it (QED is ok too even with the equations) amazing stuff. I was kept from going totally insane on a small island one only because for some reason that among all the romance novel garbage at this fleabag island "outpost" (think somewhere between Lost and Iwo Jima) there was a copy of "Surely you're joking mr feynman."
I have to celebrate any time somone brings feynan up... times aren't so dark.

There is quite some interest in growing Albarino in Australia. Over the past few years there have been about 10 wineries making the wine, with more in the pipeline. My impression of albarino is that it's charms are a little subtle and consumers will take a little time to get used to it.

Are any Californians growing the variety?

Honeymoons are fabulous in so many ways. Glad you guys enjoyed your trip.

Abby and I had a gazpacho just like that several years ago in Victoria. We replicated it at home, or attempted to... many hours of sweating the clear juices out of cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions by dripping through cheese cloth into a container underneath. We served it with a ceviche.

So glad you made it to Cyrus. My husband and I consider ourselves blessed to have it in our town and are constantly trying to craft "special occasion" excuses to pay a visit.

Congrats on your wedding!

Honestly, it had more to do with what was in stock. I think I drink more European wine than any of the crew and, in fact, the Burgundy was mine. And there were two Rhones in the pack, but I didn't get their names. They came later in the evening when I was losing my... pen and paper.

Brilliant lineup... and it sounds like you've got a good bunch of friends who are considerate enough to steer you clear of strip clubs with sub-par BTG programs.

Glad to see a Burgundy included on the list, though I couldn’t help notice that it was a white wine. Is Oregon Pinot really all that?

Best wishes from your East Coast Francophile friend.
