2002 Domaine Masson-Blondelet Pouilly-Fume Les Angelots

The Blondelet Pouilly-Fume was very, very nice. It was quite tart, but at the same time, 2002 Domaine Masson-Blondelet Pouilly-Fume Les Angelotssurprisingly complex. The nose was minerally with pear and guava, a hint of spice and after about an hour in the glass, that rubbery scent you sometimes get from good Riesling. Like the Saint Romain, it had an interesting smell, almost texture on the nose that I can only describe as brine. It was much lighter than in the white Burgundy, but detectable nonetheless.

The palette was crisp, but not without depth. Red grapefruit and lemon peel and a touch of sage gave way to a long finish that culminated in what seemed like lightly sweetened lemonade.

I enjoyed the wine immensely and at 12.5% I could drink my half (also known as two-thirds) bottle with only a slight buzz.

My only criticism, if this really is one, is that it should really be consumed with food. Some time after dinner, I drank the last glass down on its own and the acidity started to get to be too much. With food, I don’t think I would have had a problem drinking the last glass.

At $16, this was a very nice wine at a good price. Highly recommended with goat cheese.
